rear axle shaft bearing

Dont know how long its supposed to last, all depends on what driving its going to get...
But to check for wear or problems, jack the back wheel up so its off the ground.
Grab the wheel and pull in and out(not the 12-6 motion as per front), if it moves in and out then the bearing is shot and needs replacing.

I know its shot i can hear it and its leaking oil, the serves department does not have one on stock I need to know its exact size in mm before i pull it out to see if the bearing shop has one like it.

Spukniknet/Cruiser70/IH8MUD,
Just acquired a 1989 LJ70 and was also looking for the bearing partnumber to the rear
differentials.

Anyone having the rear diff blown up part/crossection will be great?
Ordered a workshop manual from Australia and NOT sure when my mate in Sydney
will be posting it.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Have a good day.

regards,
HelimanBD.

Hello,
You can download the manuals from the link on the top of this forum on the sticky thread, or I have the lj70 chassis and body in pdf which covers the diff rebuild.
Its always good to have a hard copy though:eek:
Most LJ70s came with an LSD in the back and you can usually tell by the axle code on the vin plate.
Or maybe the axle still has its LSD Sticker under that grime?
Look on the links page on this site, I believe its listed there how to look up the axle code.

Also check the toyodiy.com website for part no.s, but they are toyota ones only. which are of course made by koyo, so you pay a bit extra through a dealer, maybe the toy ones are cryo treated or something

I cannot help with the bearing sizes, I dont have any spare to measure.
Usually someone here sells them??? I could plug a name but not of the sure of the rules..

Hello Cruiser70,
Thanks for the input. I managed to get hold of a blown up
rear LJ70 axle-differentials (both Conventional & LSD) diagrams
with partnumbers. I could NOT attached the "Toyota 4WD
Differential.htm" from www.jointfuji.com as am writing via company's computer. The gears 8/39 and bearings are the same
except for the mechanical differential section.....

The one I have is with AIR LOCKERs..... bearings are the
same as it adpats to both the pinion and left/right wheel shafts.

In concurrent, a fellow sparepart contact provided a 1990
onwards LJ/FJ/RJ/BJ series PARTS CATALOGUE. It is about 1700
pages... very comprehensive covering every component inclusive
of vehicle jacks/tool kits/etc.... with blown up pics/diagrams.

YES, all this manuals uses KOYO or OEM. Managed to strip the
entire differentials last Wednesday, measured, ordered parts and
got it assembled-adjusted and back on road by Friday.

Replaced temporary 130/140EP oil with REDLINE 80W140 Hypoid
oil on Saturday...... Now searching for front axle-shaft oil seals,
but will need to physically remove and measure exact dimensions
for order to be sure as the quoted partnumbers are only good for
Koyo.

Thanks....

regards,
HelimanBD.
