I am putting together a list of parts and tools to replaces the seals and bearings for my real axle (1997 FF). I seem to recall that the oil seal, the one in the spindle that supposedly keeps the gear oil out of the hub, has to be driven to just below flush with the end of the spindle. I also recall that someone made a seal driver specifically for this purpose but I cannot find it anymore. Anyone else know the driver I am talking about or am I over thinking the seal placement?

Yes I know I can skip the seal altogether, and I still might, but want to evaluate the cost/time of doing it both ways before making the final call.

Try Joey at Wit's End

I know Toyota has a SST for this but as i understands all it does is seat the seal flush with the end of the axle housing. I just did this yesterday and i fitted the seal with just my hands.

You don't have to drive this one in. I pushed it in with my fingers. Think of it as a square O-Ring.
