I'm about to put the rear axle shafts back in my '62 (had the diff out for a regear). The bearings are relatively new and I packed them with grease when I installed them. However when I pulled the axle shafts out to pull the diff there was little grease left on them. How are these lubricated long term? Is it the grease or is it diff oil?

diff oil lubricates them.

Thanks!

I usually put some grease in the seal, squeeze a little Lucas oil on the bearing (or any thick oil, grease works too) so the bearing isn't dry on the first revolution
