I'm trying to take off the blown motor on my old Warn 5687 (Belleview) winch. I've printed and tried to follow the directions found here: http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/warn5687.php

I got the 2 long motor bolts out that go in through the other end of the motor, and I've tried tapping with a punch on the armature shaft. The motor spins freely and slides away form the winch housing by about a 1/4 inch, but won't go any further.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,
Felix

I could be wrong on this, but did you try to take the brushes out of the motor?

no, but I will. Thanks.

I THINK that the motor shaft is a tight, almost a pressed, fit into a gear inside the housing. It's been awhile but I know that getting the motor out of one of those was umm... challenging,
....Something about taking a cover or something off the side oposite the starter too.

after years of sitting unused, mine came out with no tricks. disengage the clutch?
Sorry, I'm not much help except to verify that there shouldn't be anything special you need to do.
Tim
