Got the cart before my horse and took out my old gasket without noticing the orientation. Which way does it go (fsm isn't helpful)?

I presume the first pic. FYI this is the gasket attached to the top gate itself.

Also, is there any additional sealant or gasket recommended under this part? I ask because I saw old rtv-like gasket between the old gasket and gate.
 
If I'm right in thinking that that is your top gate with the window in it, and you are looking down from the top, I think the second pic is correct.
 
Yes. It's the upper portion of the rear gate. The part w/ the glass. Shot is the top right corner.

The 2nd pic seems to just create a channel for water to be held in. Are you sure that's the right orientation?
 
So I installed it the way the first pic shows. As I feel the 2nd jus creates a channel to hold water. Someone care to snap a pic of their gate to confirm the orientation?
