Hi Guys,

I have a BJ74 that we are trying to start after it came out of a container. There is 1/4 fuel in tank now (they drain it before they put into container).

The primer won't draw any fuel out of the tank - nothing comes out the bleed valve at all, there is fuel in the fuel filter, but I suspect it isn't going to the engine because there is still air in the system.

Any ideas? Even if the priming pump is shot fuel will piss up the side of it - but nothing is coming up to it.

Totally lost on this one.

Help would be appreciated.

Regards.

Hi Louis. Have you disconnected the injector lines to allow air to escape?

I might gravity feed some directly into the inj pump and fuel lines and see what happens.

I had the same problem when I rebuild my lift pump. The fuel drains back to the tank and the primer is not powerful enough to draw from the tank to the lift pump. A new Bosch primer pump was installed. My low tech solution was to pull the fuel line off of the lift pump and suck on it with my mouth until the fuel came out the end. When the fuel flows out, quickly put the fuel line back on the fitting at the lift pump. If you are quick enough you do not get a mouthful of diesel. I did, it tastes awful. This is similar to starting a siphon to draw fuel out of a container.
good luck

Hi Ross, We got it figured out - the primer is completely shot, changed it and everything is good now - thanks very much!

I suspected that. Ive seen them so shot they wont even move a drop.
I think they should draw fuel in an empty fuel line within 20 pumps or be considered fawked
This leads to another question, how did it get so worn out?
It may have had a long term air leak somewhere.
Good to see its running anyway;)
