I picked up this 1971 FJ40 roller a few months ago. In the last few weeks I figured I would go through my new and used parts and see if I could put this rig back together. Spending more time cleaning and bringing old rusty parts back to life. Should be a fun build.

Found the motor runs great even with the carb, someone added the electronic distributor and header. The scarry part was the SOA after really looking at it I have decided to ditch the early Ball n Claw axles ( someone added )and get some later ones. We will be adding disk brakes up front and gtting a rebuilt Brake booster and master. I get it back it the day people used whatever they had to make things work. Check out the homemade steering arm.

I started this by pulling out some fenders, aprons and a hood I had stashed. On the 71 they had started to upgrade the steering with a later box. I had a 1971 steering ox in good shape so that was the first thing I replaced then started bolting things on. Its already starting to look like a 40

Your project is looking great.

Why don't you find me a solid Land Cruiser that I can turn into an offroad beast? I want a fun trail truck. Just a solid body or abandoned project.

How many trips to the bolt store are you going to have to make before this is back together!!! Hopefully you have buckets of OEM bolts laying around, it would cost me $1000 in ace hardware trips buying this and that to complete a feat like this. Thanks for sharing the journey Rob.

What is your budget? There is a great one listed in the sale section here out if Montana. Killer parts list on it.

Thanks I will keep you in mind. Everyone around here local has been great offering help.

You mean how many coffie cans of bolts do I have LOL. This is no resto build. Its a build it with what you have, kind of like my LV build 90 Day LV Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/90-day-lv-build.312726/ Brakes and steering will be done right. When I am done it wll be ready for the road or trail and keeping it under budget. Its Just a Hobby

Spent sometime yesterday cutting out and cleaning up some windshield hinges. I have an old front cowl and started pulling off some various parts for the build, also dropped off the windshield frame and my window pattern to get new glass cut, I still need to get the window seal ordered, Fuel tank is going down tomorrow to get hot tanked and re sealed. I'll be taking a break for a week on the 40. Heading up to Colorado to Rusty Nail Racing HQ to work on the 4619 pre King of the Hammers Race prep.

Update, its been a bust last few weeks, Went to Colorado to helpe Justin with the 4619. Got back a 2days later left for Stockton and Valley Hybrids Georg donated an older Disk Brake conversion. Its going to be perfect for the build. After hanging out for a few days and picking up a rebuild kit I made it back home to get started. Finished up the long axle side only to find out the short side of the housing was bent. Since then the weather has been holding up progress. @rockcod has another housing I had given him and drove out yesterday with it Thanks Tony. I have most of the big stuff to get back on track. Once the weather clears I will get back on it. Plan is to have it driving by King of the Hammers and have it in camp. I have a good feeling about this
