hi folks, have any of you try using a Fj40 petrol radiator into a 3B diesel bj40?

The radiator dimenion is 22inches W, 17inch core L, and thickness is 2.25 inches.

Is a 4 cour design, so do you think it will work since the dimension is the same, but of course the plumbling needs to reroute.

Or is there any aftermarket radiator out there for a 3B Bj40 at much lower price. Since the oem radiator cost 500USD i think is rediculous

regards

I don't know the dimensions but I'm using an FJ55 radiator in my FJ55/3B and it's fine even with the A/C. I'll be using a rad to fit the FJ45LV in that project and it too will have A/C.

FJ55 , do you have a picture of the radiator, my truck is BJ40, do you think FJ55 radiator will fit?? Also, .. please note all the thermostac and waterput inlet and outlet are on the driver side. so i should get a radiator with hoses connector to the driver side, do you agree??

Please see attached files for the radiator i am looking for,

again, my question is can i use something like this , please see attachedment it is from coolcruiser.com, have you guys order anything from this company? or should i go for spector off road?

Regards,

Vic

Make sure the hose connections are on the proper side which ever way you go.
i do believe the fj rad is the same dimension as the bj rad.

I had the rad in at a shop to have it cleaned as well as changing the connections. I believe they simply pulled the bottom tank and turned it around and then moved the connection (it would have been on the front after turning). Same deal on the rad for the FJ45LV.

I don't have a picture but I know the connection sides are as per the BJ60 'cause that's what I asked for.

ok thanks cruiser guy, if the dimension is similar, then i think it should be ok for my truck, since BJ40 has lots of room in the engine bay, i am have to customs made my lower hose connectioin between the water pump and radiator.

I'll take a look and see if it's possible to still see the hose connections on the FJ45LV/3B which would be most similar to your situation. I think the battery tray blocks the veiw though.

I may have found a company that will be willing to do aluminum radiators for diesel cruisers. I saw they are selling an FJ40 aluminum radiator for $349 on eBay and decided to look up the company. They manufacture these radiators themselves. They aren't Chinese crap.

They are interested in expanding their Cruiser product line. I'm planning to get specs/dimensions together for the various diesel Cruiser models to forward to them.

It would be awesome to have a reasonably priced option for diesel 40 series aluminum radiator.

that would be great.. hopefully there is a webstore for BJ40 at good price and good quality.

thanks for all the input volks, hopefully get some good news.

cheers

Aluminum Radiator

I'd be interested in an aluminum replacement for a 3B as well. When will we know if they go into production?

I need to pull my radiators and get them dimensions. If someone already has those dimensions available we can speed up the process.

How many different diesel 40 series radiators are there? I know of 3: B series w/power steering, B series w/o power steering and the H/2H type. I need to get them dimensions of all three.

H series is the same as a 60/62 I just had mine recored and the core is listed for the 60/62 series they reused the top and bottom tank.
The only dif on the Bj4* and Fj40 is the hose connection are on different sides not certain on this since I don't own a FJ40 all mine are BJs.
The power steering cooler option I don't believe taps into the rad the lines seem to run along the base of the tank and return,I have never removed my rad to see but from what I can see it does not enter the rad at all.

It's not the cooler that gets in the way, it's the power steering pump. The thermostat housing points to the other side on 3Bs with power steering.

Actually, they changed over sometime in '81 or '82 and after that all the 3B rads have the top outlet on the drivers side (opposite from the power steering pump). It can be tough to find the thermostat covers to make the change though.

why don't you do a rebuild of stock one? that's what I did a few week a go on mine... it was less fuss and less money.

Why the rush to use a material(aluminum) that will corrode lots faster than the original brass product? There are brass rads that go 25-35 years, aluminum I haven't seen one more than 10 years old. My military truck radiator lasted 40 years, it had a mfg tag from 1967. I use 50/50 mix of antifreeze and DISTILLED water. The 4 row rad should work fine if you can plumb it in.

if you have one sure, but theres' been a lot of 3b's going into cruisers that originally had F's, and those folks probably don't have anything to rebuild.

I'm using a shoehorned in BJ60 rad as I couldn't find any other cheap options nearby.

There is probably a rad out there from some other application that will fit, trick is to find it.

I think when I was looking it was some old 60's mustang rads that were close, but you'd have to sit down with the book and the proper measurements.

I bet there's something out there that fits.
