HDJ81 owners with EPC.

Maybe you can help validate whether the this part number: 16401-54750 for a radiator cap is what exactly needs to be on an HDJ81. I don't have the EPC.

I posted this part number question in relation to the problems I posted in the 80s section: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?p=2018373

Maybe Diesel mudders can also shed some inputs.

Wussy Pup,

Thanks for the EPC info. I just talked to my toyota dealer and they said that 16401-71010 has been discontinued and not orderable anymore from toyota. And that this was replaced by 16401-54570. Hence this is the part that was sent to me when I ordered a rad cap for my hdj81.

Is this true? Is there a way to validate this statement? Am not sure what the technical difference between 16401-54570 and 16401-71010. But what am sure is 54570 caused some problems on my LC while 71010 did not, even though the rubber seals are slightly worn-ouut.

If 71010 is really not available from toyota japan itself, what is the replacement option on my rad cap: go aftermarket and run the same risk as 54570? source 71010 from other LC parts shop; look for 71010 in the junkyards?

Maybe Cdan can help.

I see a "0.9" etching on the side of the caps both 71010 and 54750. That is indicative of the bar/PSI rating, right?
If they have the same bar/PSI rating, what's the difference then? manufacturing steps? raw materials used?

Am thinking I'll do a complete drain/flush/refill this weekend and then use old cap. Maybe the life of the rad cap will be the same as my radiator. If I ever need to replace my radiator, it will come with a new cap and I don't have to deal with this rad cap supply problem. anymore.

You can get rad caps from oz ebay for peanuts. In oz I buy good ones for $10AUD

Otherwise try the FZJ80 cap;)

How many of these "good ones" do you buy?, Rosco.
Why do you buy so many?

Well I have 3 cars and I change them whenever I have a problem whether its the cap or not.
I also service friends and family cars occasionally for beers and favours.
Ive also owned a dozen or more cars and usually the coolant system needs servicing so I always change the cap

So why do you want to know?

I think he is looking for a new suitable cap (or should be)but I have a feeling thats not the problem .
