To my knowledge, all cars and trucks (passenger type) sold in the US these days are 50-state certified.

since most of the lc's on here are mid to early to late 90's, with age and due time, there could be parts that fail that could cause failure in emissions....02 sensors, cats, leaks in exhaust pipes, plugged egr systems from carbon buildup.....

I could be wrong, but I thought at least some of the turbo diesel VW models were not sold in CA and a few other (North Eastern) states.

Like I said, I could be wrong and I usually am. :D

Quick smog answer = smog is bad......

Quick answer #2
Diesel passenger cars not sold in certain states over certain dates. Used cars (certain mileage) can apparently be bought elsewhere and brought home to states with the weird diesel prohibtions. Low Sulfur fuel reqs. will prbably ease restrictions.

Thankfully, I'm not in the market for VW crap:) But yes, some vehicles are not 50 state smog legal so that is why I asked about the 80 series.

Thankfully, it appears they are all 50 state legal, allowing me a wider selection:)
