Quick question- carb related

can anyone tell me what the circled piece in the pic is supposed to be connected to if anything? Tried looking up the diagram on SOR but the link is dead.
Carb is stock smogged carb on an 87

Nothing that I know of. Its just shaped that way because of the other linkages close to it. It pushes something at its base, not at the top. I can go take a pix of mine if you want proof. I rebuilt mine but don't ask me the names of what each thing is or what its actuating.

Thanks, wasn’t sure but that makes sense. Will soon be replacing this carb and getting rid of the smog junk

That is your choke opener, it is used to open the choke when the engine is hot via a BVSV.
