I've been having problems with air getting in the fuel line on my HJ60. We traced the leak back to the suction tube coming out of the tank (after dealing with other little problems on the way back), and after much hacking, banging, and swearing we replaced that and remounted the tank.

My question is in regards to the other hoses that come out of the side of the tank, go up into the side body, and come back down. What do they do? Do they cycle fuel between different chambers in the tank? Or some kind of fuel return?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm just curious, partly for interest's sake, and partly in case anything ever goes wrong in that area so I'll have some idea what the problem might be.

Much appreciated

Terry

hey Terry,
Are you referring to the strange loop of fuel line that does a "U" on the inside of the rear right quarter panel? If so - I'm very curious as well - since mine is partly rusted away and cannot possibly be doing what is was put there to do.
And is this only an HJ thing, or just a diesel thing? I've searched long and hard in the 60's forum for this piece of pipe with no results.

hmmm... I guess I will have to let them keep their secrets... for now.

mine is partly rusted away and cannot possibly be doing what is was put there to do.

well, at least I know that if they decide that their existence is pointless and not worth continuing, they shouldn't take anything useful down with them.

They all use basically the same fuel lines except the gassers have one more to vent into the charcoal canister and the turbo diesels have larger diameter lines.
Some of the spaghetti is to allow air to escape from the tank as you fill it.
Sometime in the mid 80s they added a checkvalve .

This is the best diagram I can find.Disregard the part#

BJ60's have it too.

I am thinking it is a vent, and it works on many different angles. SO the tank cannot be vapour locked.

well, I guess mine definitely won't get vapour locked :D

another thing to add to the "do eventually" list
