How can you tell you have a bad idle solenoid?

Easy test is to let the truck idle, then unplug it and see how it runs or if it'll restart.

I think you can turn the ignition on, with the hood up, and listen for it to click. There's also a test in the emissions FSM.

Would it cause a lil' rough idling?

Bigsur, pull it out and give the tip a clean. Sometimes they get an oily fuel residue in there that clogs them up.

wait, we're still talking about the idle solenoid, right? lol
I made it sound like the sick dick forum

Its a lil' idle problem...nothing major at all. But i can feel it. My RPM's barely change.

I've got a slight idle blip, just enough to see the shifter shake a little at idle - but I'm thinking mine is because of a weak motor mount that has been soaked by the old leaking power steering pump. Sometimes that'll effect it.

There's about 2 million things that can effect idle, it seems like.

yeah its prob not your selenoid...to check it just unplug the green connecter on the carb when its running...then it should stall then slightly connect it a few times..everytime you connect it it should click.............did you do a tune up any time soon??? check the pvc valve as welll

PCV not PVC valve (just a correction) (Positive Crankcase Ventilation). And yes, you can clean those right up with carb cleaner (B-12) or any carb solvent. If it rattles, it's good. If it doesn’t, it's not. They are cheap from Toyota.

BigSur, your truck runs fine, quite worrying. I would check the idle solenoid, but honestly I think your truck runs great.

yeha benji got it i wasnt talking about white plactic pipe i was talking about the postive crankcase venalation valve one of the first things i replaced on my rig..cost maybe ten bucks from toyota

Benji - I need you to come over and drive my truck and tell me "it's fine, don't worry" so I'll quit that crap, too! :D

It's the hypochondria thing...

I'm always worried too. Honestly though, BigSur's truck runs smoother than mine, and I think mine runs good. He can put a cup of hot coffee filled to the brim on his aircleaner cover and it won't even make vibrating circles. And yeah, I would love to see your rig soon.

Cheers

Based on Ben's coffee comment, Jason, you have to stop worrying. :D

We all need to get over to 360 soon for a play day.

Thanks for the confident but i am a stickler for perfection! I think i'll start off with replacing all the hoses in the truck.

BTW...already done a complete major tune-up. What's weird is that i am still getting close to 14mpg.

Replace all vac hoses. It's not fun, but it's easy. Don't pull them off or you might break connector niples as they tend to harden and stick after a while. Get a razor blade or sharp knife and cut a slit parallel to the length of the hose where the hose and connector meet. They come right off. Use the original as a template and cut new vac hoses. Do ONE at a time. You can get a semi-good diagram from Toyota. Have them fax it over to you.

This helped my engine tremendously.

And I get 14 mpg too.
