Hello. I was at the dealer the other day looking at winches. I had heard of mechanical winches and electric ones, but the salesperson was offering me a "Thermal-electric" winch. Can someone offer insight into what this is and why it is "thermal"? Does it work with heat?

If my LC did not come with the factory mechanical winch, what is entailed in getting one? changing the bumper and installing the winch?

Thanks for the insight.

I prefeer electrical winch .. but is just my opinion. Termal winch is a electric with with termo sensor that care the electric motor, in overheating case. Warn have 9.5 TI ( thermometric winch ) and 16.5 Ti.

And yes .. you buy or make the front bumper, make a mounting plate, put a winch, and conects it, ready to use. Proper and secure ( tough ) instalation required.

Wow, 16.5 ti. And I thought my 12K was big :)

I have also a 12K electric .. but for a heavy Duty as F-350, Duramax, Cummins trucks .. are the option ..

unfortunately this would be better in the outfitting forum.
