Please assist with my ignorance. What is a "brass tag" truck. My Fj40 has a brass tag. Does the brass tag double the value of my Fj40? :-) Kidding of course..... still curious about said brass tag.....

brass tags were used to reference the year titled as a lot of rigs were titled in different years than built. they were built and shipped to a distributer and then wouldn't get a title until they distributer sold them to a dealer. example is my fj40 which is a 1962 model titled as a 1963, but another mudders 40 was built after mine but still titled as a 1962....his sold to a dealer before mine did.

FJ45 trucks sat unsold on Toyota dealer lots into the 70s. 90% of the 45s I have seen have been brass tag trucks. Could have been price related, but they did have a demand issue.

First off, I believe FJ45 TRUCKS were only brought in the USA from 1963-1967 ? I can understand a "one year" or so difference in build vs. title but I have never heard of brass tags going out many years ? I was to young at that time for the awareness needed for what actually happened, but I was told in Idaho that these were sold as soon as they came in. An old timer also said Toyota would send what they could vs. the idea that any order would get one.
I only speak of rumors but if you combine all of this thread, it certainly makes sense that the rarity of these on USA soil had obstacles at all levels.
I suppose if you have one, you are a lucky person.

i know brass tags went out a couple of years on some land cruisers, but i can't say for sure it was 45s. i just remember thinking it was odd when someone posted a rig that was a few years past build date
