question for the specialists - Pics added

After removing the tranny hump and cleaning the top of the transmission, I found a 6x6 sign stamped into the tranny cover and side. What's up with that? My understanding from the PO is that the transmission (4spd) came out of a '76FJ40. Any idea why the stamp would be there or what it's significance is?

if the stamp said "ford" I would guess he lied. What did the stamp say? what did the stamp look like?

I wouldn't worry about it unless you're having problems with the transmission. It looks like some sort of casting mark used by the factory for identification. Probably quite common.

    casting mark

I'd go with the "casting" idea. Mine shows "6 4D"
