I've read all through every thread I can find about 255s on the 100 and still feel in the dark about something. There seems to be a mix of wheels people running the 255s are using, so my question is for folks running a 255/85r16 on a factory 16x8 100 series wheel.

Any issues with losing the bead when aired down?? I see most of the tires in that size are rated for up to an 8" wheel, but would make me nervous running 18psi on trails. I don't do intense rock crawling if that helps.

I have 255/85R16's on the stock 16x8 wheels and regularly run them at 15 psi when spending any time on 'trails' (like I assume you are: Tincup, Marshal, Hancock, Taylor, etc).

You will not regret opting for the 255/85R16 tire unless you like the look of bloated tires.

Thanks that's helpful. And yes you named our standards, no sense in taking an 6000lb torsion bar truck rock crawling! I can get over my vanity for the wide tires if it helps performance...also spacers.

run st maxx in 255/85/16 on oem LC rims. No issues.
Are you on stock suspension? I want to run those same tires on the SCS F5’s which have a +10 offset.

Do you know if 255/85’s will fit with that offset?

Also how are you enjoying your st Maxx’s in that size on your 100?

I am still enjoying my 255/85R16 ST Maxx on stock LC wheels. I'll be due for tires next year and will probably buy the the same tire again.

Right on, I’m inspired. Thanks!
I will be going with the Yokohama Geolander M/T G003 in the 255/85’s on my stock 16’s. They’re the same width as my current K02’s (265/75) but are two inches taller.

That is the same tire size pattern I followed 👍 265/75 to 255/85. You will probably want some sort of speedometer corrector since it will read slow with the taller tires.

Went from a factory +60mm offset to a +10mm offset with these new wheels so here is a reference for 255/85r16’s with a ~1.96inch “spacer.”

I'm really liking the ST Maxx (285/75-16) on my 80 series. I have Yokohama G015's (same size) on my LX470 but thinking I will put the ST Maxx on it too when its time for tires. I like the 255 profile..but it's become an odd size these days and is more expensive than more common sizes.

The 255 is an oddball size tire and the options are limited. The price might be a little higher but I can't say it was much different than a 285/75 or 315/75.

I priced them before in my area and they were $30-$35 more per tire than the 285/75's. Then the issue of no one having any in stock (locally) if I were to need a new one for any reason....so I went with the 285's on my 80 series.

Many years ago now....235's and 255's were common tire sizes (10 ply) on 16" rims...but they've long since become scarce.

After seeing what people want for an old beat up set of factory 16s I think I’m sticking with my 18s. And going bigger like 34 or 35”??? How’s that for a 180? Have taken the old girl on a few rock crawling trails and actually love it.
