Hello Tapage,

The more I think about this the more I think a H55 is the way to go.
Maybe look at my other thread.

Cheers,
Nick

H55F in a 80 series with 1HD-T .. mmmm not bad idea .. but I'm pretty sure that the H151F is a more refined, soften, laidy tranny than the old H55F ...

Tapage,,,,"Laidy tranny" lol I suppose it depends what you are comparing with,,,,,,,,,

Anyway,, I did some checking today and with 285/75/16 new geolanders I got 2500 rpm at 100kph and 2950rpm at 120 I need to check my speedo error with the gps but it got fried by leaky batteries so I will compare with true speed later

don't get me wrong ..

H151F as same as H55F are great trannys, I'm pretty sure on that .. only the H55F have more lower 1st and the jump for 2nd are bigger than H151 that is means to me, more comfortable shifting in H151 also is a more modern tranny.

So is it possible to calculate where the revs would end up with the H151F 4.1 diffs but with 305/75/16 or 315/75/16,,,,,roughly?

yap .. 305 is like a 34.01" and 315 like a 34.6 then there are les than 2% of diference of diameter between both .. so it means no really afect your revs .. or at least 2%

Im quite surprised to find that with the GPS at 101kph the speedo is 100kph,,,,not what I expected with the 285/75/16 so my previous post sticks revs wise,,,,,,disapointing as far as consumption goes ,buts thats another thread

My turboed HZJ80 cruises at 100kmh at 2600rpm with 285/75R16 MT/Rs.

My mates HDJ80 with 33/10.5R15 BFG MTs cruises at similar (not sure exactly) revs but offroad mine will idle in first low at a lot slower speed than the mates HDJ80. I don't know if it is just the idle speed that is lower or if the diff gears in mine are lower, 4.3:1 maybe. The 100 series has 4.3 in the 1HZ and 4.11 in the 1HD-T, maybe some of the 80s had the same option available.

As you said different ring and pinion gears would be an easy way to adjust gearing. But then again, so would 35" tires. :)

Does running 2600 on the highway seem a little high to you?
What sort of fuel economy do you see on the highway?

Cheers,
Nick

Need one of thoes calculator thingies...........

H55, 1HZ, 185 75 16s, 3.70 gears, whats my rpm at a 100KPH?

Nick .. I don't really thing is tooo high coz the 1HD-T it's a 4.600 rpm redline engine .. I thought 3600rpm is high ..

I'm very intrigued with this thread, fuel economy obsessive as I am. Although the lower RPM's running bigger tires for a diesel would suggest better fuel economy, everything I've read with people who made the change from say 285-75-16's to 315's ( a fairly significant change and resultant drop in RPM) say fuel consumption gets WORSE doing this. I'd be interested to hear more.

Maybe with the bigger tyres you use more fuel getting going?

Checked mine today 2650rpm at 100km with 265/75/16

Nick:

Your RPMs don't compute - From BFG's info:
- your tire turns 630 revs/mile
- x 4.11 - your drive shaft should turn 2589 revs/mile
- x .765 (with a A440) your tranny input should turn 1980 revs/mile, when locked up in fourth.
- at 100 km/h you are doing 1.036 miles/min, therefore your rpm should be 1980 x 1.036 = 2052 RPM at 100km/h

My '73 indicates 2000 rpm at 100 km/h (which has been checked by a GPS), with 33x10.50 BFG ATs - which are "theoretically" 1% smaller than your tires.

Jim.
