:doh: Pitiful question I know, but...my understanding is that it provides more power starting off while towing???? Is this correct? Any quick debriefs on the diff locks, front diff locks, 2nd switch, pwr switch.. would be appreciatedl...and under what typical situations do you use these gadgets.??

The pwr switch just changes the shift algorithm for the transmission, so that it (basically) shifts at a higher RPM. It just keeps the engine at a higher point on the power curve, on average, while accelerating. You can achieve the same result with your right foot.

The 2nd button is for a 2nd-gear start. It locks out first gear. Better for traction when it's really slick, as this limits the power going to the wheels. But honestly, with the 4wd, VSC and TRAC, the LC has better traction than a Zamboni anyway. So I haven't yet found a reason to use it.

Can't help you with the lockers as I drive a computerized cream puff.

most of that info is basically covered in the owner's manual, even with pictures and such. But as a rule of thumb, you engage the CDL on slippery terrain if you feel that you're losing traction, the RDL when it gets really tough and/or a rear wheel is off the ground.
If your style of driving is mostly peaceful, you will probably never need to use the "PWR" button". If you drive like I do, you will probable engage it once and never ever disengage it again ;)

You have a front diff lock on a 100/LX???
 
I am probably what most folks would call an "aggressive" driver, so I find the power mode better for my style of driving. In fact I get better gas mileage because I get up to cruising speed faster. :D

I bristle at folks who accelerate from traffic lights by simply releasing the brake pedal and letting the car idle up to speed :mad: - by the way that doesn't work!!
 
So do you guys also drive your Cruiser like a sports car because I know I do, lol. I can't stand going slow I have to pass other cars!

Uhhh... no. I would say the 100 is pretty far from being sporty.
 
In the LX, Power mode with the suspension on Sport setting on winding roads seems as close to a sports car as a full size SUV can get. But ... there is no worry of it being mistaken for a sports car ride.
 
As has been said, it is all in the owners manual. If you don't drive in snow, you won't need the 2nd switch. If you don't go off road (hard trails, steep rocky hills, ledges, sand,etc...not dirt roads), you won't ever need the lockers. The 100 series works very well in all these places BTW.

I feel your pain. I think the LC/LX is about as fast and sporty a vehicle anyone needs, since where I live they drive slower in the left lane then they do in the right lane and if you want to go over the speed limit you have to work your way through the maze of cars infront of you. Big waste of time to own a sports car in this country, no where to drive it.
 
Hey, slap some Bilstines on your cruiiser and you will be surprised how sporty it will be. I loved how it handled, especially on the curves. Not as good as my Boxster :D but for a SUV, yee ha.

don't let these guys fool you... if you turn that power switch on you get a NOS blast.... just make sure you squeeze the throttle slowly before flipping the switch. :D

Big waste, period, to drive aggressively on public roads - since, the overall system will force average trip time to be about the same for a given route regardless of how you drive.

And, Haste Makes Waste: Increased fuel usage and wear & tear on the vehicle. (For no significant gain at all in time savings, yet increased risks to self and others - especially others, when one is tailgating.)

Another interesting thing: The repeated dis-stress hormones triggered by impatient aggressive driving WILL shorten your life.

that was the response I was expecting to see in the first post....my kind of thinking.

You need to also add that you might need to fill you nitros tank if you don't get the response when using that switch...

Yes, everyone should talk on their cell phones, read the newspaper and drive under the posted speed limit in the left lane. Agressive, according to all the hopla yes, but more along the lines of actually paying attention to driving. There is concept.

It doesn't work like NOS but close enough!

People are doing a billion other things than driving in LA, you see people opening mail at a light, a guy on a pda, another guy texting, and etc.

Technical: It modifies the shift patterns, raising the shift points (RPM), with the intent of achieving greater overall net available drivetrain torque/power output, at the expense of increased fuel usage and drivetrain wear. Under heavy load, higher rpms can improve cooling system performance by better oil & coolant circulation and fan-driven airflow across the radiator, and higher rpms at lower effective engine torque can reduce trans oil temperatures by reducing torque converter slippage (if not in lockup mode) and increasing trans oil circulation rate to the trans oil cooler.
