Purpose of gasket between master cylinder and booster (1 Viewer)

As per the title what is the Purpose of gasket between master cylinder and booster? I currently done have one and in the process of improving my breaks so if its needed I will get one.

Gaskets make up for imperfections in metal surfaces and the cushioning effect helps keep the nuts tight

That and it stops mud/water/moisture gettin to the push pin cavity and rusting it all out.
