Well, I realize that cosmetics are not the most important thing in the world when it comes to LC's, but I felt this truck really needed a make-over! With plenty of dings and dents, serious pin-striping, and a peeling clear coat, I decided it was time for some paint and body work. And no... didn't want to do bedliner.

This truck has seen some serious wheeling including several rubicon trips, but with a built 40 also in the driveway - I've decided to make the 80 more of an expedition rig, primarily for baja trips. Roof rack and RTT showed up today along with most of the parts for an on board shower.

I realize that not everybody is a fan of deviating from stock colors, but I for one am not a fan of dark metalic green...never have been and don't think I ever will be. At this point the body work is done, she's prepped and masked and ready for paint in the AM. Inside and out with the roofrack, flares and antenna removed and holes welded up.

Hopefully I'll get her all back together this weekend...

Stay tuned for more pics!

...and you're going to leave us hanging as to the color you've chosen? Fawker! :flipoff2:

Looking forward to the 'after' pics!

I'm interested to see how this one comes out. When you're done, can yo let us know about how much it cost you?

I'm an original color purist on 40's. On an 80 I say anything goes. I would like to see one in bright red someday.

Subscribed :D I'm interested in the choice of color and outcome.

there is some guy around where I live that has a bright red 80....looks cool...had pictures on my phone but it crashed and lost em....

I agree. 80's are a dime a dozen and will probably never become a classic like the 40's. In my mind they will never be or live up to what the 40 has done to conquer planet earth being that black top is the preferred road taken now days. The 40's didn't have that option.

I think we will have to wait a few more years to see that outcome ;p

I agree we will have to wait and see. I just think the 80 series was born in the age of the "bubble" look and can never compete with the classic look of the 40's. I am not knocking the 80's or their owners, just don't see it from my side of the fence. The same was said about the 60 series and it never happened nor will it happen. I love all cruisers............. but only a few are destined for classics. That being said, I hope the OP paints it Nordic Blue.

Yep ;) totally agree. But time will tell. I may be a very very poor example, but I still cling to my 914. Arguable the ugly duck, but :meh: . I keep my eye out for KG's.

Ok - post up what NON STANDARD you'd paint your 80 if you had to and could NOT use a factory color while we wait patiently here for the results.

Personally, I'd go with a speed yellow. I like the looks of it on Slee's short bus.

Yellow-How about a 40 series Mustard color..... That would be awesome...

914's are cool in my book.

My brick shaped 60 series is still the baby of my family. She is not worth the tires she sits on but memories are priceless. So when is that OP going to tell us what color?

Flat army green for sure for me, maybe Endura with a flattening agent? But flat army green for sure...

Same yellow on Christo's - absolutely loved the way that came out. Or the really sweet dark burgundy pearl on of all vehicles - the Honda Odyssey minivan. I've only seen a single one this color but it is a remarkably different color in person.
