Before you start looking into rebuilding the pump you may want to spend $3 and 20 minutes replacing the O ring for the suction port on the bottom of the pump. They nearly all leak due to the original O ring getting hard. Part #90301-11016 at your local Toyota dealer. A thin coat of FIPG on the flange helps too.

If you do need an entire seal kit talk to Ken at ATEB in Burnaby http://www.ateb.ca/
He stocks the kit. Don't recal how much.

70squy,

Can you post pics of the FSM that outlines the steps on how to do the O-ring replacement? Can the replacement be done from underneath without pulling out the pump?

Got the same problem - very minor leak though. Leak is not even enough to drop to the floor (guess per your note, all HDJ81s would have this O-ring problem) I just monitor my PS reservoir and once in a while I top-off. Im not keen on pulling down the whole thing and rebuild since per my mechanic friend, it's quite difficult and the labor cost alone will kill me.

But if the procedure to replace the O-ring is relatively simple (you mentioned 20minutes), then maybe I can schedule this so I can finally get my HDJ81 leak-free. This PS leak is currently the one I have and it's bugging me for about a year now.

No pulling the pump required, just remove the stone guard so you can get your hands in between the steering rods. Two 10mm socket bolts to drop the suction pipe.
I can't load up FSM details, It is so simple that the FSM probably wouldn't cover it in any great detail anyway.
Best to suck as much of the Dex III out of the reservoir and pipes so you don't get a shower under there.
