OK, I have a 283 sbc and am preparing now for the ps install on my 73 FJ40. I have the 60 gear box and sag pump with brackets from a 350. The problem is I believe the 283 is a earlier model than the 350 because I have hardly any of the mounting points on the heads or water pump for these brackets. If you have run accross this issue and have solved it please lemme know and send pics.
Thx.

Kevin

The 283's like many 327's don't have the mounting points that the later 350's Heads have, as you've discovered. Search for some orignal 283 brackets, you may find they even have mounting points using the water pump, or manifolds, intake & exhaust ( which also becomes an issue if using after market intake. Here's a picture of a 283 in one of my cars (64 Chevelle) w/ PS

Nice car. My alternator is currently mounted that way but it needs to relocate to the other side. I may be able to use the same brackets and just flip them. I think the pump needs to be where the alt is because of the steering column and gear box. Only problem then is relocating the battery.

You might try "Alan Grove" brackets and see if they have something.

Keep in mind if your 283 has era correct bolt-ons it also has a short water pump and all the PS bracket stuff has to be matched.

I run a short water pump and ended up running a PS pump circle track racers use because it mounts directly to the "old style" motor mounts on the lower front of your block. No other brackets were needed. Pic is poor but can see in lower corner:
