Started my power steering conversion going from mini truck to 80-series.

Picked up a heavy duty tie rod and drag link from IPOR and I feel like they may be a tad short.

I’m getting not quite an inch (7/8”) thread engagement into the tie rod.

If I back the lock nuts out I have over an 1 1/4” thread unutilized. I’m think the tie rod needs to be at least an inch longer...I mean longer is always better right? Or am I overthinking and and should just run it. Thanks.

What steering arms are you running? The 80 series and 40 series arm have the same taper but the 80 TRE are thicker. I used 40 series arms for a 60 conversion but had to ream them to accept the 60 TRE.

I should have clarified. I’m running 60-knuckles and arms. All 60-TREs except an 80 TRE at the steering box.

So your pics are with the tie rod adjusted for proper toe? If so I would get a tie rod with the length you want. Like 1.5" longer. Although 7/8 engagement is probably on the borderline of being acceptable. Once the locknut is tight it kinda acts as additional strength.

Good idea. I kept everything the same as it sat with the old stuff. I'll check toe in this afternoon before I ask IPOR to send me a new tie rod. They already have to send a new drag link as it was tapped backwards.

@White Stripe - did some rough toe in checks and have between 1/4 and 1/2” of toe in. I’m going to ask that tie rod be lengthened 1”.

The one they sent me was 40.5” long and stock was 42”, but I need some room for the lock nuts vs stock setup.

I need to do this. Can you tell me where you got the ream?
