Wow! I don't know what to say. This isn't like losing a car it is like losing a sculpture. It truly is art that you do with your vehicles.

I need to probably do something better with my insurance on LEGO. I don't have near as much as you do monetarily in it but the time is a crazy amount. I didn't keep track as I knew it would be heartbreaking.

I hope State Farm is better to you than my dealings with them over Katrina...

Yup . good luck! I hope they treat y'all like deserve to be treated. 20 & 40 years respectively... This will be interesting to say the least.

Scary, no good. Glad everyone is ok.

good luck.

Working with some special adjuster that deals with custom stuff. We shall see where this comes up. I was quoted 140k from TLC to build another.

Very sickening to see this happen. So sorry for your loss.
Now on to the insurance; it's your right to get what it would cost to replace it to nothing less than its condition before the accident. If it would cost 140K from TLC then that's the least I would aim for. On every insurance deal that I've had to work with the other party's insurance, I've always come out ahead. There's really no reason you shouldn't as well. Just hoping all turns out well.

I agree. In dealing with insurance adjusters, do not settle. They have incintive to talk you down. They also get "graded" on how long cases are open and how long it takes them to settle out. Just insist on what you are due -- to bring the vehicle back to original condition.

I drug out a claim over 6 months with my FJ40. The adjuster was getting some heat from his manager at that point and was much more willing to work with me.;)

I hope you demanded a 4x4 rental to replace yours with. Not that anything could compare to replacing it, but at least they should be concerned about getting it settled since the rental fees keep adding up.

THat is a good point, usually they have costs stacking up for storage and rental every week that give them more incintive to settle. Anyone want to charge some rental storage fees?

WOW!!!! I just saw your build and when I saw the truck upside down my first thought was holy crap I hope he is alright. (Then read your post!!) Great he is ok and it was not his fault I honestly about cried for the cruiser.

Keep at it make them pay what its worth.

Glad everyone walked away. As far as the insurance goes don't budge, let them incure all the fees associated with storing it while the case is open, trust me once you get past the first 90 days of BS you'll start hearing numbers that don't make you want to choke the living daylights out of them.

Right at the end of whatever deal you end up making add that you want your rig back too. You'll hear another round of BS of why they can't, not possible, against the law, whatever the story of the week is, just step away and not accept it. They'll be back offering it under some sort of title restriction/destruction/salvage depending on the laws in your state and try to nickel and dime you one more time but at least you'll have it back and can decide where to go from there.

Glad you all walked away. Sorry for your loss on the rig.
I had a Rental car company for years. Our longest claim settled 9 years after the accident. Meanwhile the other party had 2 other accidents in the first 2 years after ours.
Tell them what you expect. To be in the same place you were before the accident. No added cost to you. If not your fault his insurance should pay any deductible you incur. .

sounds like you had s***ty insurance....when my 60 was totalled, I got a fair price and they offered me my truck for $400. no branded title either...

Man, that was a beautiful truck you built. Hope everything works out for you.

Under a cover. Can't look at it yet.

We almost got it uncovered while there the other day, but not quite, but got to see most of it in the skin, or all the good bits, anyway.

Must be time for a 45LV on a 200 chassis, with the TTD by now, anyway, for something different

That totally depends on whether you carry full collision, who was ticketed, what insurance the other guy has, and if you live in a no fault state. I don't carry full comp on the cruiser, too much for me here in the NE to justify the cost on a vehicle thats over 15 years old.

I've seen lots of guys get screwed on custom stuff from good carriers like SF who had full coverage but got wacked by an uninsured driver in a no fault state.
