Are you going to have enough clearance with the grid heater? How close is the intake horn to the bottom of the hood?
The grid heater is shorter than the spacer that’s in there now. Just need to shorten the air intake pipe a tad. We

My buddy Ben’s ex-wife Noel rode her motorcycle to Bend last weekend. On the way bad she hit something and was thrown from the bike into and into a road sign. Fortunately the lady driving behind her was an EMT and saved her life before life flight arrived. She’s in critical condition with bleeding on the brain and broken vertebrae in her neck. The doctors said if the EMT lady had not been there she would have died. Second motorcycle incident among friends in the past month.

I've never had any real issues with cold starts, even in single digits... A heater isn't a bad idea tho'.
As for the fuel filler neck, just to throw this out there as an option: I pulled the fill tube off and then used a hole saw to drill it out and followed that up with a blast of compressed air... Nice work man. I look forward to seeing it in person.

That sucks brother. Praying for the best outcome.

I’m looking at property in central Oregon due east of Crater Lake and building a mountain cabin. The property sits at almost 5,000’ near the Klamath Marsh. The marsh is in a low depression between mountain ranges and pools some cold air. Last winter during February it got down below -30F.
Read good threads about having a grid heater so decided since it’s down to add one and not wish I had earlier. When I get this property going I’ll have the 60s guys over for get together and wheeling trips in the Fremont National Forest. The place gets some great snow too which will just be the added bonus for snow wheeling.

Brrr! I'd definitely want a grid heater, block heater and maybe a battery heater at those temps...
Yeah, prolly won’t be there during arctic cold like that but the cold weather there is very possible. Most times I plan to go in winter would be when it’s going to dump some heavy snow. Travis a friend of mine is interested in also getting a place to build a cabin. He’s a building contractor so it’d be a blast to build a couple of Mtn cabins. I told Vader about it and he was stoked as his mom loves just down the road toward Kfalls.

This listing just came up last night

I’d love to design an off-grid cabin for you. Hit me up when you have a site 👍
I have a design but another opinion would be great too. I love building and construction with wood. It would be great to get a place together for us MuD guys to meet up. I’ve reached out to some S. Oregon guys about it too.

Well pump plugged up. Pump was stuck in well. Got the pump pulled. Set up our 375 CFM air compressor and blew the well out.

Blew debris out from 65’ down to 74’ the original depth.

Blew the well til the water started cleaning up.
The well was barely making 2 gpm before the well cleanout. Now it’s making at least 8 gpm.

The storage tank had 8” of sludge debris in the bottom... NO this is NOT a septic tank. It’s a portable water storage tank for their house.

Used a sump Pump to pump the nasty debris out of the tank.

The sump pump wasn’t able to do all the work.

Once it pumped most out I had to climb into the 1500 gallon plastic storage tank and clean it by hand.

Once the tank was clean it was time to install a new booster pump to the house. The old pump was plugged up.

Install new water filtration between the well and storage tank which they didn’t have before and why the tank was so full of $h!t!

Wire in 115v solenoid valve with micro switch and pump up float. Low level float to turn off booster if tank runs out of water.

All done... 3 long days of work... exhausting but now they have clean water and more water from the well. New filtration before the storage tank and a new booster pump to get better pressure to the house.

Wow, really clean work. That must have cost them a small fortune. Small price to pay for clean water though.

Things still to finish, bump and steering stops, lower the transmission mount on the crossmember to stop the transfer case from bumping under the console. Wire the reverse lights, the switch and pigtail are in the NV4500. Finish the emergency brake... I know... I know, but I’ve just been parking in gear. While it was at Josh’s the oil pan was removed and the drain pan drain was moved so oil wouldn’t drain all over the front driveline.

Fresh oil and filter. New fuel filter. New drain pan gasket. Grid heater was installed at the air intake. Got the diesel rejection flapper out of the fuel filler line. Made a plate to block the hole in front of the 4WD shifter.

Saweet. Do you have sound deadening?
i don’t most likely in the future but it’s a whole lot better with the 4WD shifter hole blocked. While at Joshs his brother Caleb and I found a old stainless steel lid and made it. What a difference. Going down to Klamath County tomorrow to look for property east of Crater Lake.

These look like the route I’ll go for bump stops.
