Yuck! At least on the burnt stuff, I guess it's how things go. We have seen many of our favorite places burn over the years and it is a bummer.

Had about a half hour so replaced the drivers front seatbelt.

Rear retractable set took about an hour.
I need to do this for at least one side of my rear for my kid. Commenting so I won’t space and see about a list for the supplies. My male dog won’t happily lay in the farthest rear and squishing his 60lb totally not flexible tootsie roll body in a single space next to the kids car seat makes me feel sad for him. Yes I will be one of those parents that will keep their kid in a 5 point harness as long as I can. It keeps him contained!

No kidding! I’ve gotten three seed catalogs recently! That one was number three. He was reading to me while I drove!

Time for an update. Today was a trip to Browns Camp OHV area in Oregon’s Coast Range. My kids came along, my daughter took the liberty of recording a few sections of trail.

A couple weeks ago Travis and I went to the property to burn slash from when we cleared area for the septic drainfield. Was a awesome time getting away. Got the piles going on both our lots and shot the MP5 PTR32P. I should have worn earplugs... my ears where ringing for about an hour.

Walter the local near Travis’s lot was plowing the road. He saw our bonfires and stopped in to chat. He had a 55 gallon drum of used oil so consolidated the piles and soaked them with oil.

Spreading the coals and you’d find a pocket of oil that would flare up quickly.

Two of slash piles burning into the night made for an awesome picture.

Next up will be getting lumber for building the pumphouse and bathroom.

Hey, you there on the right...quit making yellow snow!!

This winter has been mild. Have only had 3 snowfalls around an inch which is unusual in the Cascade Foothills. We typically get multiple snowfalls of 6” plus. Over 30” during December 2008, with over 100” for the 08-09 winter. The hammer came down Thursday with sleet and freezing rain that changed to 4” of snow, went back to sleet and then 3/4” of freezing rain which changed back to snow adding another inch. We lost power Thursday afternoon but got it back that night. Friday evening when we got the heavy freezing rain we lost it. Made it home from friends, aired down the tires to 10 psi navigating the backwood country roads among fallen trees and power lines. Saturday morning I got up early to survey the damage. Got a crew of locals together with chainsaws to clear the fallen timber.

Used the tow strap to drag logs out of the road. Parking anywhere down there was dangerous. One of the neighbors was hit on the nose with falling ice and was bleeding. The 60 was hit on the roof and only damaged my flashing on the rain gutters. Very impressed with the 60s performance and really was thinking of naming the Sherman Tank😆

My neighbor Don shot a video of the cleanup.

Some more random pics. The best part of a metal roof is that it sheds the snow, and provides better fire protection.

PGE the power utility has reported at least 240,000 customers in the service area without power. Unfortunately it could be weeks before power is restored. With our road having only 15 homes and multiple issues upstream it’s unknown when power will be restored. We’ve gone 9 days without power here at our longest stretch during 2008s big snow. This looks to be defined longer.

The weekend of the big snow and ice storm while out driving my BRAKE warning ⚠️ light came on. Played with parking brake handle and look for something interfering but it would not turn off unless I turned the 60 off and restarted. Then it would come on again. Durning the diesel swap the brake fluid sensor was removed and has not been an issue. I noticed when it did my volts started to drop off on my volts gauge.
Last weekend I started trouble shooting.

Removed the drivers seat to inspect the wire between the kick panel to the parking brake switch. I check the wire for any damage to the wire insulation. Suspect was the parking brake switch. But the switch operated open when handle down and closed with brake set.

As most 60s owner with the parking brake is the number one reason the BRAKE warning light comes on. It’s with due to the switch being bad or the handle isn’t quite picking down the switch enough to open the circuit. The other source is the brake fluid level switch which was removed during the diesel conversion. Removed the gauge cluster panel and started testing behind the dash. Black w/ yellow tracer with ignition off has continuity to ground. Turn ignition and no continuity and after starting. Install bulb and it lights up.
Tested with 12V tester and no power, til second click in ignition then the black w/ tracer lights up.

Decided to try removing fuse to BRAKE warning light circuit and that did nothing to allow my alternator to start charging system. Put battery on the trickle charger and test later Monday at work.

Put volt meter on battery terminals. Turn key and BRAKE warning light turns on and then crank starter, engine starts and BRAKE light turns off. The parking brake handle is off in video. I can set the brake and the BRAKE light turns on, take the parking brake off and so does the light. Go to the engine and check battery voltage. Shows alternator is charging. Rev the throttle cable and my volts start to slowly drop off. Go to gauge panel to see volts dropping on volt gauge. Volt meter at battery shows my slowly dropping voltage. This leads me to believe the alternator is dying. Any tech support would be appreciated. I also found another helpful thread. Here’s one I’d been posting on with little help.
And a better thread my buddy Brian sent me. Too bad the thread title didn’t come up in my IH8MUD search engine.
Hope this helps me and others understand the BRAKE warning ⚠️ light better.

I take my alternators to a local shop and they test/rebuild, sell me parts if I feel like fixing it. Using ground for a return path always messes with my electrician brain..

Happy Easter MuD followers. Spent time today clearing brush on the Massey. The wife wanted more pasture for the horses. With it cleared decided to have some fun in Snowball and get some MuD on the tires.

This is an update from the Crater Lake Property Thread. This was March 19-22nd.
Headed to the CL property Friday. Beautiful drive with our typical rest stop along the Deschutes River.

Picked up plywood in Bend at the Bend Builders Outlet. The owner Danny is a bit of a Nazi. I preordered and prepaid as plywood has been moving fast even at $31 a sheet for 1/2” mill cert CDX. The forklift with while delivering or their in the yard damaged about half of my sheets. I told him I’d like other sheets and he said, “there’s no cherry picking allowed.” You get what you get. After much discussion he said he’d wave any 20% restocking charge and allow me to get replacement plywood. Travis was also getting plywood and #3 lumber. While the forklift was putting wood on my trailer we saw 2 rough bad boards. We told him we didn’t want them and again the owner came over and said Travis had to take them, “no cherry picking allowed.” We both bought over a couple grand in lumber and couldn’t understand why the owner was a complete toolbag.
Got to the property and started on my pumphouse for the well lot while Travis’s lot had too much snow to get the truck to his. Thankfully Walter was able to come over with his tractor and clear the snow.

The bathroom pad was covered with snow still and had a thick layer of ice under the snow. Before I left Friday decided to clear the pad in case I had time to start that building.

Saturday was a great work day. Got the door wall knocked in and started placing the 4x6 beams.
Mocking up and deciding how tall and pitch of the rafters.

Today hope to finish sheeting it in before the snow comes.
Finished sheeting the pumphouse and covered the roof. Need to order a door.
For now just enclosed the rest of the lumber inside.

Yeah, building materials are nuts right now. A lot of yards don't allow picking, some yards Will let you sort on smaller loads. If you order a bunch of stuff delivered, good luck as a homeowner vs. a contractor who does a lot of business with them..

Looking Good!
