Got back and played in the S. Fork of John Day at Camp. River was full of crawdads.

Saturday we headed to look for sea fossils in mountains. The Canyon Creek Fire burned much of the valley.

Looking northeast at the Strawberry Mtns. Just over 9,000’ high.

The altimeter on my speedhut gauges showed the spot a mile high… sea fossils!

After digging fossils we went and collected some quartzite rock.

Then headed down the S. Fork John Day forest road to camp in Dayville.
We saw a small dirt road and found a nice waterfall on the river. Sean and I decided to go exploring.

The waterfall was strewn with huge boulders and had numerous pools and even a large cave you could climb into with water cascading into it.

Leaving this morning and took a picture of the entrance of Picture Gorge.
The Middle Fork John Day enters Picture Gorge through a massive fault line that allowed the river to flow through it on the right side of the pic.

Heading though the canyons and what do I find ahead… another 60s series!

The 60 fuel mileage on the highway ranged from 23.5-24.6 mpg. Highest I’d ever seen water temp. @ 205F climbing from Mitchell over Ochoco Summit after passing a Nissan truck. EGT’s can very easily get over 1250F if I’m not watching the gauges. A few times passing I got above 1400F but quickly got them down below 1200F. The 60 is a lot of fun and everyone at the campout talked about it. My wife really enjoys it now but still loves to call it “The Other Women!” 🤣😆🤣

Took a much needed day off to enjoy family time and take the 60 to Boulder Lake. What a great place and basically had it all to ourselves. Went bouldering above the lake for some great pictures and fun scrambling. Caught some Brook Trout fly fishing. Lounged and did nothing on the lake shore. The boulders held the perfect amount of warmth and were actually comfortable to chill out on. Hiked also to Little Boulder Lake. Another great day in the Oregon Cascades. The drive in Snowball❄️ Is about as enjoyable as the destination.
