While it was there, he
💸 got the bolt out
💸 mentioned my birfs need rebuilding
💸 told me lots of my bushings were shot
💸 changed the brakes out
💸 got the wheels/tires/spacer on (not without some grinding - bora spacer that I spent A LOT of money didn’t have the cut-outs for fitment in the front so since I didn’t want to wait, he used his grinder and got them right
💸 he noticed the rear proportioning valve was leaking so I had him get a new one ($200+) and replace before bled the brakes
💸 he changed out all the fluids, and I got her back

I will say, it was a lot of work and he didn’t blow my budget and I appreciate all that he did because it woulda put us back at least a few weeks and I really wanted to get some miles on her, and we had a trip to the mountains planned for this past weekend…

Gonna have to order the bushings, and some of the wear items he mentioned and get that done over the next few weeks, but we took her for her maiden voyage this past weekend and aside from feeling kinda underpowered up the hills, she did great. The seats leave a lot to be desired and a pull-a-part is on my list to find some donors but other than that she drove and stopped and shifted like she should.

I’m gonna take her to get detailed pretty soon and let them take care of all of the nooks and crannies inside that I really don’t want to do, but she’ll do just fine as a daily, and I can focus on 1) getting my LX470 sold and 2) beginning to get the 2 x 1970 FJ40s roadworthy, which for one of them is gonna be a bear of a task…

This past weekend there were a lot of green 80s driving around the Alpharetta and Cumming area. You would have been able to hang out with them. Unfortunately i was stuck in my tundra so it i was invisible.

Looking good there. Those wheels look great on there

Next time, for sure! I was stuck doing tax work all weekend. The wheels are one of my favorite parts... my goal for this rig was to keep the same weathered look on the outside, maybe even do some linseed oil to have a layer of protection on the hood, but to redo the interior 100%, and be able to maintain/daily-drive her... and I think so far that's accomplished... there's gonna be more to do, but we're trending the right direction!

Just a heads up… Project Bush Cricket is gonna be going up for sale in the next week (I’ll be creating a FS thread for it). While we love the rig, we currently don’t own anything newer than the 95 FJ80 and we have 5 x automobiles 😬… I think that’s great but my wife thinks otherwise so a new Subaru outback has been ordered and the 80 has to go. I’ve got my FJ62 to focus on (and a couple 40s) after that! If you’re in Atlanta and looking for a well-sorted rig… HMU

I’ll be the first to say that she needs a wash badly, but sheesh, she just does work. Always an easy uneventful ride back and forth to our cabin in western NC…

Warning, There may be some glamour shots up here this weekend…

I love Project Bush Cricket… but once my 62 gets back from @cruisermatt ’s shop… she’s gonna have to find a new home and hopefully go on more adventures. She really turned out great and gets lots of compliments along the way 🤩

HMU if you’re lookin for a very well maintained, almost new inside, FJ80!

A very clean rig. Definitely a labor of love.

Yeah man! Or just FREE labor... I enjoyed the process for sure and I'm definitely not afraid to get in there and take it all apart now :)
Sad that she's gonna be someone else's at some point, but my FJ62 is my spirit animal and with 4 total Land Cruisers, this one has got to make an exit...
