Hi guys... I've got a burnt out brake light in my '87 73 ( 24v ). just picked up a 24v replacement bulb at Greggs, identical to the one I pulled out. when I put the new one in, it does the opposite of what I need - glows bright for running lights, put on the brake and it goes dim. Bulb on the other side still glows correctly, but not this one. Anyone have this problem before, or am I overlooking something and posting a really dumb question? Thanks

Maybe you should op check the new bulb in the known "good" brake light assembly. Maybe there is a prob with the brake light assembly and thats why the bulb initially blew..... just my own 2 cents:cheers:

Natty:

It's also possible to put the bulb in backwards, particularly if the socket is not 100%. I always check the pins for the stagger before I put a new bulb in. If the bulb isn't in backwards, check it like HeepEater says..

I bought a cheap set of tail lights off ebay and the contacts really floated around inside the socket and one did turn 180 degees so the elements would work in the wrong mode. swap out with a good working bulb and see if it does the same if not then it would be the bulb.

The bulb is the wrong wattage. I bought the same bulbs, with the same result.
buy from Toyota , either Countrty Hills or Stampede, Part #90981-16015. Cost is also less than Greggs.
