How much should a fully rebuilt 2H diesel engine cost? All parts included. I have the opportunity to buy one and want some input. There are 3 engines available in all different states of repair. I would have the seller rebuild one completely with Toyota parts.

How much would you pay for a completely rebuilt 2H????

What is your actual meaning of "fully rebuilt". This can vary greatly depending on the rebuilder and the engine needing repairs. Some may re use the pistons others will not do this also if the oil pump is making pressure before it is pulled down it is often left as is but some of these motors will be described as fully rebuilt. Toyota parts are good but usually more expensive, some after market parts are better quality and cheaper. Many variables.cheers

That is a difficult question. I have been on the hunt for a 12HT "1st choice" then a 2H. A complete rebuild kit for a 2H from Oz is about 1K. That is only the motor parts. Injectors, pump, oil pump, h20 pump and head rebuild not included. A running 2H or even a good core from Oz before shipping is in the area of 2K "please let me know if there are others cheaper" The boat ride to Seattle is about $500.00. If you are doing a conversion? You need quite a bit more then just the motor. Used 2H motor and tranny combos from Canada seem to be 5K plus and they are 24V. I provided a complete list of what I thougnt I would need to change my 60 over. 2H about 4K and 12HT about 6K. Motor, H55F with shifter transfer, 180ishKM with good compression, air cleaner, radiatgor, frame pearches ect. That quote was from Oz.
For a complete rebuild, I have no idea?

I spent NZ$3700 reconditioning my 2h. Rebore, pistons, crank grind, bearings, cam grind, several valve seats & guides, built up rocker faces, new radiator core & hoses, new clutch, and reco'd injector nossels, the whole 9 yards:grinpimp: I plan to keep driving it for a very long time;) Might even pop a turbo on one day:rolleyes: or maybe not.

I spend about 5K ( USD ) including labor

Injectors, piston, rings, oir pump gears, valvles, BEBS etc .. ( and clutch )

Well, If you wanna pay to get a new head, or repair the old one, I have an 86 HJ60 with 2H,cracked head, It's stuck in Peterborough, Ontario, but you can have the whole truck for 2k

2H Rebuild

My rebuild was similar to the materials that Garry stated, I had about 5 new rockers the other were ok, new clutch, all Toyota parts, new pistons etc etc. No new head. Cost in BC Canada was about $6,000 parts and labour.

I'd look for a 1HZ were I you. Parts availability 100%. Current engine and current technology.

Great info! Would the 1HZ engine or other diesel options besides the 2H be significantly more expensive? I figured the 2H would fit with little mods and would be the easiest swap. Maybe buying a 2H from Canada would be cheaper?

Yes a 1HZ would be more money than the 2H. It's a current engine. It would be LESS than a 1HD though.
