OK - be gentle with me.

What have Prado owners been doing for tires? I have a 1990 LJ78. (And yes, the head and all was replaced and it's running well now...)

I have 215/80 R16's on now, and I will have to replace them one day. I probably won't go off road with the vehicle, and I am not readily finding this size in southern Alberta.

A change in size can throw off the speedometer, can it not?

Anybody willing to give me a quick lesson in tires?

Peter

There is a wide variety of tyres available (40+) in 215/85/16 as it is a popular size for 1 ton DRW trucks. 235/75/16 would be a spot on match for diameter when compared to the 215/80/16 you have on now as well.

with the same truck
i have 33' 9.5 BFG at's on 15 inch rims. there is no rubbing and it is an easy calc for the speed. the original tires were pretty close to 30" diameter, so until i get a speeding ticket i will just add 10% to the speedometer to get my actual speed. if i ever do get a ticket i will spend the 150 - 200 to get a signal convertor.

A 30x9.50R15 tire is almost the same diameter. You can go into a tire shop - like a Kal Tire - and just ask what options you have or you can play around with a tire calculator and figure it out yourself: Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing

So he should sell all his rims to go that size :)

As noted which sizes are close I would do that. I have 235/85r16's on both my cruisers. I rarely notice a diff, its a very easy size to find cheap/commercial rubber....

I really like my 235/85/16 on mine. Lots of room and good clearance. The speedoo is right on but the odometer 8% under reading (I don't know why that would be) It does make first gear a bit higher but is ok for me.

Kiitos, Axel! My mother's people are from Karelia, in Finland.
