Just checking if anyone has installed a powered subwoofer in their truck? I am looking at a sound ordnance 120 watt powered subwoofer. It is rectangle in shape and about 4 inches high. I am thinking about somehow mounting it on the panel on top of the stock subwoofer grille. Of course I will be disconnecting the factory sub. Has anyone mounted one of these or similar right to the panel with any success?

I haven't done what you're looking to do, however I have installed one 12" JL Audio W3v3 sub w/500 watt amp. The sub is just sitting in the back behind the third row seat and the amp is squeezed under the 3rd row seat.

All fits well and it's a very clean install.

Yeah trying not to put anything in cargo area

Yeah I'm really not sure then, there's a very limited space to fit a quality sub on the side panel as there is only a 6" factory sub there currently. My other option was to mount the amp in the side panel and remove the sub whenever I needed the extra cargo space. This is a very good option but I didn't mind having less cargo space because I rarely use what I've got. So if you're an audiophile like myself, I would go ahead and get a sub for the cargo area, but mount the amp in the side panel. This will allow you to easily remove the sub for cargo space but still have very high quality bass. Just my opinion!

When I was in the planning stages of upgrading the stereo in my 01, one idea the guys who did install had was to integrate a shallow sub (like a JL W5) into the trim on the passenger side of the truck in the cargo area. I did not go that route, but I still think its good idea.

I have an 8" powered Bazooka. Its seriously rocks the truck out! The other 4 door speakers are powered by my Alpine. They are all aftermarket speakers. Its sitting in the back with the port facing the rear. Its easy to quickly disconnect, but its so little I don't really ever do it.

^^This is probably your best option. There really isn't a lot of room behind the panel. I removed mine last fall and plan to go this route.

Too bad there isn't a stealthbox for the LC/LX platform per the pic below . . .

why not install it in the stock location? simple brackets shouldn't be too hard to fabricate.
There really isn't much room in the stock location. The box itself won't accommodate more than about an 8" speaker (with modification of the box). Building a custom box in the location is doable, but not a simple task, due to the lack of room in front of the wheel well. Fitting a 10" sub in that spot is possible, but the custom box is going to be very difficult to build.

I put a Pioneer shallow-mount sub (TS-SWX251) in the back... It fits easily behind the third row seats.

The Pioneer looks like it might be a possibility. Thanks for pointing it out CRC!

Are we thinking this can be mounted onto the panel over top of the oem sub? What I mean is not temoving the oem sub but mounting it oriented just as pictured to the side wall. Not sure how to secure it to the wall. Anyone done one like I am proposing?

What about a bazooka 8 inch tube. It mounts with straps. Maybe the strap bases can be screwed to the driver rear inside panel in front of the factory sub?

The more I think about this the more it seems possible to install a bazzoka over the existing subwoofer location (on top of the panel) let me know your thoughts or concerns with this

One concern is that the Bazooka tubes are optimized for corner loading, and that location doesn't accomplish that. I also think the Sound Ordnance and Pioneer pre-fab boxes would be a lot more subtle in or near that location. I'm not sure you could even fold the third row seat with the Bazooka protruding 8+" from the side panel.

Yeah I saw that about putting it in a corner. Maybe one of the flatter ones would be better. I just thought the bazooka would be easier to mount. Not sure how I would mount one of the flat styles.

The pioneer I've got won't fit in the factory location...At least not in that box. You could fit it in a custom box, but that box is going to be a pain to build! It does fit nicely into the back, even with 3rd row seats.
