Has it been staked into those slots Like a pinion nut? Mine didn’t have the slots in the housingJust gave it another shot with even more force and a different punch and the metal is just bending and chipping away, any more suggestions?

Nope, I managed to turn the entire unit counterclockeise a 1/4 turn, however after that it stopped. I've tried turning it clockwise as well and no luck.Has it been staked into those slots Like a pinion nut? Mine didn’t have the slots in the housing
I had one that had been apart before, i basically had to destroy it to get it apart. Damaged threads
You looking to sell any of those steering boxes? I'm looking for a new one instead of trying to rebuild my ownA bit hard to tell from the photos whether the steering box is similar to common ones here. Maybe there is a part number under the gunk? I have 2 or 3 steering boxes in my parts storage. I can dig them out and look for a part identifying number if you don't find info elsewhere. Did you try your VIN on sites like Toyota DIY? I have only ever worked on the steering gear by removing it from the vehicle.
