On my 96 Cruiser the power steering is whining only when I use 4 low. It gets worse/louder as I wheel harder and use the steering a lot.

When I use the lockers it seems to make it even worse also.

In the past I have changed fluid with ATF, and have done the adjustment on the steering box.

What should I try remedy the noise or strain? I am sure this has been an issue for others in the past. Thanks

I should have read up before posting...there is a bit of info on this already.....So I will be changing low pressure hose with clamps and putting new fluid in tomorrow. Going to try some light hydralic oil or power steering fluid instead of the atf.

Still open to suggestions though...

belts are within 5k. oem yota

Mine was doing the same thing in 4 low and upon visual inspection I had leaks as well. I replaced the high pressure hoses and the pump and that fixed both problems.
