Hi, Just rebuilt the 1991 fj80 power steering pump. Don't do this when tired,in a hurry or mad at your wife or she's mad at you . You will need her extra hands when removing and reinstalling the back case spring clip. Really the worst part of the job. Mike

I am of the opinion that it is a waste of time and money to buy rebuilt power steering pumps. I have had so many fail. Finally, after so many failed rebuilts, i spent the money on a new one and it has been problem free for 10 years, probably because i added a power steering pump cooler to it that sits in front of the radiator. No more new pumps available for my fj60, but i have one of the last avaialable new ones on my spare parts shelf. For an Fj 80 they might still be available. I advise that you buy one while you can.

My opinion is check everything for looseness . Mine was mainly leaking in the back. I felt no shaft vibration and the fins had little to no ware . No grinding or noise before hand. Mike
