I had a fuel leak in my HDJ81 fuel pump, which started soon after I crossed the border into Oregon. Anyhow, I met a guy at a campground in California and he told me he puts a cap full of power steering fluid in fuel every time he fills up (I think a GMC 3500) as the fuel in California was ¨sand paper¨ in his opinion. He said that power steering fluid is made with a lot of sulpher and it would soften the seals, thus stopping the leaks.
So, low and behold, I´m now in Mexico and the fuel leak seems to have stopped, ironically, my power steering is now leaking.
Is anyone familiar with this as a fix for a fuel system leak? Are there any pitfalls if I continue to do this?
Are there any silly fixes for power steering leaks, apparently powwer steering fluid doesn´t seem to make the seals any bettr in the power steering system.
On a side note, diesel in Mexico is about sixty cents per litre, the toll roads are good and the people exceptionally friendly, especially to my two year old and just as important, a six pack of Sol
is only $4 USD!!
Off to another beer!
