Attention to all Houston Cruiserheads:

In an effort to break in to upgrading my rig, I would like to get my wheels powdercoated when I get some new rubber on them. So, do any of the guys in Houston know a good, reputable powder coater? Thanks in advance. Lemme know...

If you don't mind making the trek to Austin, we got a great powdercoater right across from JKCustoms.

I second the recommendation of Quality Product Finishing. I used to work for a powder coating manufacturer in Houston and know of most of the companies out there. QPF probably does the best work in Houston for the price. They have something like a $75.00 minimum, but if you're having wheels done you will meet that with no problem. I had them powdercoat my FJ40 skid plate and they did an awesome job.

Another option is Allied Powder Coating if QPF won't do it for some reason, but I would try QPF first.

Good luck! Powdercoating is definitely the way to go..bar none.

great, thanks for the info guys. I will be giving them a call tomorrow, while i'm "working".

What kind of prices for PC wheels are you getting in Tx....The best price I've seen to PC 5 wheels for my 40...are $35 a wheel...but then $10-15 to fog blast the chrome.

Just got off the phone w/ QPF. $80.00 per wheel! Is that high? Because it seems high to me. I didn't think it would be that high.

The average I was getting here in Seattle was $60 a wheel...finally found a place that does it for the $35 plus fog blasting....which brings it to around $50 a wheel total.

i think i'm going to shop around some more. a guy i work with said that he knows a good place in spring, tx. i'm going to check them out when he gets back with the name of the place. i will report prices as i find them.

Another option might be to check your local tire/wheel store to see if they have any agreements w/ PC shops locally.

$80.00 turnkey is not all that high in my opinion. There is a lot kore to powdercoating than there is with liquid paint. But then again, it is also much more durable, etc. You get what you pay for.

Most likely Precision Powder Coating.....don't know anything about these guys as we didn't sell them powder back when I was in the business....

Have you already had yours done? If so, do you have any pics?

Is there such a thing as clear powder coat?

price update:

precision- $75.00

southwest- $60.00

btw, the people at southwest seem really friendly and willing to work with you.

Yes there is a clear. However it is quite difficult to use, Shows all mistakes.
Plus your subsurface must be clear of all debris, lint dust etc. What some coaters do is color coat for the base then clear coat for the extra gloss and depth. Look at it this way in coating you get what you pay for. I would go visit the custom coater and take a tour see what he does. They should have a sample wheel or something close to it so you can make a good decision.

Had mine done at Industrial Powder Coating in Dickinson down here South East Houston - Clear Lake area by Kemah. They were very reasonable... I want to say $25 a wheel. It has held up great so far. Very durable... you could probably haggle them down a bit also. I have used them for other automotive things and have been very happy with the results.

Where in Houston are you?

If I could find a place in WA to do them for $25 a wheel, I'd have mine cleaned up and "re-cleared" with powder coating.

I live near downtown @ Shepherd and Memorial. If you watched the news tonight, you probably saw my apartment complex on fire. Luckily it wasn't in my building, but sadly three apartments were damaged. here's a link...

I'll call industrial powder coating tomorrow, though i think the gas to get down there would take care of the savings on the powder coating...haha

Looks nice. They still have a really nice finish. I was thinking of seeing if i could get the gray part in between the mags masked off and leaving it gray, w/ everything else getting done in black. Dibs on that idea! unless someone else has done it, in which case I'm totally going to shamelessly copy it.
