Potential starter problems... diagnosis help please (1 Viewer)

Before I go order new starter and impale myself with the hood latch, please give me your feedback on the following symptoms.

I am going to replace battery cables regardless... they’re in rough shape. Battery voltage is good.

Problem:
Turn key and single click at center of engine. One click per start attempt. Keep trying it might take 4-5 key turns then will fire up. Hit starter with breaker bar and it lessens the amount of key turns to about 2.

No doubt... starter solenoid, right?

Sounds like worn brushes.Jarring the starter reseats the brushes against the armature…

More than likely. You may try replacing or checking ground cable is tight first.

I think the post-2 means the starter contacts. You can get the entire starter solenoid from Toyota for about $50. I have a one spare and carry with me just in case.
