Came across a '98 LX470 for sale. It has 160000 miles and is priced at $13500. I have '97 LX450 and am completely satisfied with the vehicle. My wife and kids would like the newer one for some of the creature comforts it provides over the 450. In the esteemed opinion of the members of this board are there any issues with this model year and would the relatively high mielage scare you away? Also, does the asking price seem fair? I haven't been exposed at all to the benefits of the '98 and newer models.

I 'm gonna post this same question on 450 board.

Thanks for your help

I just bought a 98 w/115k miles, new timing belt, etc. for $18.5k. My wife liked my LX450, but she loves the LX470, it is very comfortable, more roomy, smoother, all around better for around town. I don't think there is anything in particular about the 98 LX that should steer you away from it, just check the faq, etc. for common issues. Don't discount the Land Cruiser either if you are still looking, it is essentialy the same minus the hydraulic height adjustable suspension and a few other details...

Call me crazy, but that's a lot of miles for any truck. 13.5 seems nuts. I would think in the $7,000 to $9,000 would be more appropriate for any vehicle with that kind of mileage. I sold my '91 with 185,000 miles for $7,500 and I was suprised anyone would pay that much. I guess whatever someone is willing to pay is considered fair. Even land cruisers get tired after driving to moon and back several times.

I thought thought the miles were pretty high too. However, driving down the road and seeing a LX470 with "$13500" shoe polished across the windshield made me stop to invistigate.

As I stated earlier, I'm completely satisfied with my 450 with 102000 miles and factory lockers. ;)

Thanks for the feedback.

No way a LX470 should be that cheap (7-9k). A 91 LC w/high miles? Yeah, but not a modern luxury SUV. There's alot more to value than just miles, 13.5k is not at all out of line for a high mile 100 series locally, in fact I've never seen one that cheap of any year/mileage.

Sounds like a good price to me. That's the cheapest I've seen also. KBB shows $14.5k for 160k, good condition and from private party.

What do Edmunds, Kelley, etc. show for it?

A place to start getting an idea of the worth.

The depreciation depends on lots of things, but in general, the 100 retains value far better than "similar" SUVs from other makers. ('Cuz it will last longer with fewer problems, statistically-speaking; better-made. Don't need to tell this forum members about that, though, eh?)

Would be a good idea to check the service record - did it get the timing belt etc. at 90k? Prolly should have that new water pump by now, and I'd also be looking at things like diff gear oil changes and all the other stuff that needs to be done per schedule in period leading up to 160k, per respective vehicle system. (With emphasis on the big-dollar systems...)

If it was driven and maintained like I do my '99, it'll have at least another 100k + before anything significant craps out. :)
