At tonights meeting it was requested by the new president and vice president for members to post projects, training and runs they would like the club to consider for the new year. The menu of suggestions will be reviewed at the next meeting and the calendar for the new year will be developed. When you respond to this post, it is important to indicate if you are willing to take this on as a project or if it is something you would like the club to host.

Following are Paul and myself's proposals:

(1) First Aid Training with a focus on the 4x4 drive community. (Willing to organize)

(2) CPR Training. (Willing to organize)

(3) Sponsor a "Weather Watch" course. This is a course that teaches individual to recognize dangerous weather conditions (Willing to explore if it is still available)

(4) Winching and Recovery class (would like to attend)

(5) Club Baja Trip (2013) (would like to attend)

(6) Some type of community service (trail clean up / maintenance) (Willing to
willing to participate)

(7) Vehicle maintenance / project day (where a group of club members get
together to accomplish small maintenance items or project tasks that they wouldn't do by themselves. (Willing to organize)

(7): Onur is doing a full resto of an 80 series.

I will need help for 2 specific days:

Take body off old rig; take body off donor rig and put on trailer to take up to Diesel Dan's house for paint.

Then will need assistance putting body back on trailer, back to my house and on to frame

I anticipate needing 6-8 pairs of hands to do this along with come-a-longs, pulleys, etc. Will provide beer/food as needed for hungry, needy souls.

(4) I would be happy to assist with leading or co-leading on a course on winching/recovery operations.

(5) Out.

(1) and (2): Interested in both.

(7) Add on: I would be happy showing tune up procedures for a 1FZ including timing advance for optimum operation at the elevations we operate these rigs at.

(7) Add on: Doing a front axle job tutorial for those who've never done them and want to learn as well as rebuilding calipers, packing bearings, etc. Though I think most people in this group probably have these skills down pat. Also doing a tutorial on full-floater rear axle jobs as well.

(5) Club Baja Trip (2013) (would like to attend)

I'm willing to lead this. We can start discussion. I've been going down for several decades so I take travel in the peninsula for granted. I would be interested in Mike's perspective as somebody that was new to travel down south. He was given a quick introduction to both the gulf and Pacific sides of northern Baja, and I suspect with a larger group we would need to pick one side or the other.

Another possible idea for a run. Cooking and sharing best recipes.

Could someone teach me on the fine art of Dutch oven cooking while camping? I've had the thing for 15 years and have yet to use it, other than to use it as a weapon of some sort.

You need to find a Boy Scout to teach you how to use one of those things. Depends on what you want to cook in it. All I've ever seen cooked in them is cobbler, cake and corn bread.

This is hard for me to believe...https://forum.ih8mud.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Definitely willing to help Onur, with paint even.

(2) Need to re-certify

Definitely count me in on Ash's food class!

I volunteer Marc since he is a boy scout dude......:hhmm:

Give me a few months to get a refresher on the technique. Colin moves from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts in about 2 months. It's been nearly 20 years since I was a Boy Scout.

Best thing would be to have a meeting at somebody's house during the spring/summer who has a fire pit. Then we can make the coals we need to get that sucker hot. You pile the coals on the lid to do the cooking. Works great with charcoal briquettes too. You don't necessarily put the oven directly in the fire or the coal bed.

Yup, that's a good idea. If couple of dutch ovens can be brought to a meeting then we can serve up some vittles for the group (w/o starting a forest fire, hopefully).

If there's serious interest in recovery/winching I'd be glad to chip in, but it will have to be within the next 45 days. I am a veteran towing and recovery guy with 10+ years. I'd be glad to help on the 80 project also time permitting

(1) First Aid Training (I'm in to participate. I can try to co-organize with Albuquerque Mountain Rescue Club if the team is interested)

(2) CPR Training. (I'm in to participate and pay fee)

(3) Sponsor a "Weather Watch" course. (I'll sit and listen)

(4) Winching and Recovery class (I would like to attend)

(5) Club Baja Trip (2013) (I'm definitely in)

(6) Some type of community service (trail clean up / maintenance) (Sure, willing to participate.)

(7) Vehicle maintenance / project day (I'll help out when I can get out from under the honey-do list.)

(8) I'd like to go on a few camping runs, but that has been a desire for the last ten years or so...

(9) Organized White Rim Trail (Canyonlands National Park) camping/run???

(5) Club Baja Trip (2013)

This is a great idea but somehow a club trip seems to be an impossible dream. Jon is the go-to guy on this one and I am in, regardless of the number of days or time of year. I want to go back so bad that I am considering a summer trip since Feb-May 2012 are out this year.

Yes.

I would like to offer my 80 for a teaching prop for the front axle service class. I know I am capable, but I know there is a whole lot that I dont know. And there are always the tricks to make it easier that a noob doesn't know. Anywho my 80 is available and I will be interested in the class regardless.

Baja YES!
