Possible? Double Alternator on a 1HZ?

I am putting a 24v 1HZ into my 44 but want to run a 12v alt an circuit for all accessories not easily sourced in 24v versions.

I was talking it over with a friend and we thought of putting two alternators back to the back like the alt/vac systems in the 3Bs.

Has anyone done anything similar to this or see any issues with pursuing this option?

I don't run nearly enough accessories to need another alt but if I did I'd save the space in the engine bay and run a third battery. If I really needed to I'd invest in solar panels as well

It's been done on a 12ht in a 61 if you do a search. I'd dig up the thread for you if I wasn't on my phone

Sorry for the lack of clarity... I would run a third deep cycle battery in the 12v circuit to run the radio, fridge, work lights, etc.

I am more concerned with separating my camping battery from my starting battery and therefore am investigating the 12v amp/battery circuit. I don't want to over tax my starting circuit by operating a high amp converter, especially when not running.

I bought a redarc bcdc1220 that will charge my third battery when I get it in

What kind of amperage does that put out?

Edit: just read the specs. Can this be used as a 12v source (or can I draw from the battery) while running the truck and charging at the same time? I would like to have my radio and aux lights all coming from this power source while driving.

Works on 12 or 24v and converts it to a 20A 12v charger for a third or second battery.
Are you hoping to run everything other than the starter off this third 12v battery? I don't see why that is necessary.

I just purchased the piranha trays (hopefully they get here soon) and will be doing a big rewire of stuff under the hood for me. The 12v battery will run my fridge, gps, stereo (down the road), turbo gauges and any other misc thing. I do not want to compromise my starting system out in the sticks.

All Stock systems will run on the 24v oem system. I just want to do exactly what you are doing... run the radio and lights and fridge off of the 12v circuit. I will wire in 24v backups for those things that can use both (phone chargers and fridge).

This system would work much better than trying to stuff a second alt into the already cramped belt system.

What's a piranha tray?
