Hi all, just bought myself a 2007 LC4 D4-D with 100,000 miles on it. Only had it for a couple of weeks here and I brought it into the shop for some service, they told me I had an oil leak from the engine and they told me I have a cracked engine block. Apparently, it's been leaking for some time but I never got any of the symptoms of a crack on the engine block. The car doesn't overheat, there isn't any loss of power, no smoke coming from the engine or exhaust, coolant levels are good, and oil levels are full. I'm going to get them to show me when the car is back up on the ramp because they said the previous owner tried fixing it but did a really bad job. I've driven the car well over 300 miles already and it drives beautifully even with the alledged "crack".

What are your opinions on this? If it is a small crack can I get it welded rather than buying a new block?

It sounds like this is a Mark 1/Gen1 Land Cruiser 200 series with the 4.5 V8 twin turbo Diesel engine 1VDFTV. If so this belongs to the 200 series tech forums.

Try to have them inspect the rear main seal (where the engine meets the transmission) for the leak, I know because I worked on a 2013 LC with the 1VDFTV engine before with this symptom and that was the source of the leak.

Here are some photos looking up towards the front of the car, and it seems more like it’s from the transmission.

As with any leak. Showing a ton of oil all over the place, is usually useless. Clean spotless and observed daily for point of first occurrence. The clean again and confirm.

Where this is not the best forum for your engine. If leaking oil, oil level will drop. How many miles until level drops, depends on how bad leak(s) is/are.
