Friend of a friend is selling this trailer. I know nothing about these. The guy selling thinks its a truck bed.
It's rough and has been "modified". The rust is mostly surface rust, however there is a few bad spots on it. Is this trailer worth the 300 he is asking?

A couple questions...
Does it come with all the metal in the picture?
Does it come with an axle (possibly the one under the trailer)?
Does it come with leaf springs?
Are you handy (able to fix it up)?

~Daniel

Edit: I just saw that's not really an axle...so does it come with a different "axle"?

Couple things that stick out...

Round fenders

No handles on the corners

All metal

Location of tiedowns

My guess is a M100....I think most truck beds had wood floors from that era.

The ass end has been cobbed up though

It does cone with the scrap.
It does come with the axle, but it's garbage.
No leafs, but it's in a spring shop now.
Yeah, I'm slightly handy. More so resourceful. I've got a buddy who said he'd help with the refurbish. It would need to be wired, sprung, new axle, new wheels and tires, as well as a tailgate.

I'll say an old bantam trailer...and $300 is steep for what I see in the pics.

Offer $200 or less, and find the parts to restore it, or get a 6 bolt axle to put Toyota rims on.

No markings on it?

I would restore it...those trailers are pretty cool.

Agreed... In my humble opinion the tub is worth $200ish if your gonna build a expedition trailer...more or less this would be a new trailer build. :D

It's not a Bantam civilian trailer. The instant tip off are the tie downs on the sides. All military trailers have four tie downs on each side. The civilian trailer has three.

All M100 trailers had grab handles on the corners, and it takes a lot of careful work to remove them.

I'm going to say this is either a WWII Willys MBT or a Bantam BT3 trailer tub.

Because it is a WWII tub, it has collector value from a parts standpoint. But it looks pretty rough. And no pics of the actual floor. It's going to take a lot of work to restore it, and to obtain the missing parts.

Now if you just wanted a utility trailer and are willing to put on non-original parts, it might be worthwhile if you don't mind spending a lot of time on it. But my advice is, there are better trailers out there.

Got it for 225. I have no idea why I just bought this other than it seems like a fun project.
Thanks for all the advice. I really appreciate it.

The only markings are the military stencil. The ID tag on the front is gone. I'm going to take some more pics of the tub and underside to to see what you guys think.

I just snapped some quick photos and posted right then and there. You guys are awesome to chime in so quickly.

Congrats on the purchase! It will be work for sure as others have said, but if your not doing a "restore" then you have a great canvas to be creative!!!
