I'm on my first F engine rebuild and have a question about ring gaps.
The book spec seems to be on the small side so I'm asking what people have found to be the optimum.
TIA.

You might what to start at lower end as the gap will increase as the cylinders wear and performance will suffer.

Hmm, a typical rule (if there is such a thing) is .004 -.0045" per inch of bore, so a 3.54" bore would want a .0141 -.0159 gap.
That is at the upper end of the gap range I see for the top ring (.008-.016) and greater than the range for the #2 ring (.006-.014).
I am certainly not an expert. I'm curious what actual dimensions have worked for people currently doing this with current new parts.
