Making any change to the pinion bearings could change the R&P pattern. If your pinion is loose or is making noise it would be better to remove the third member and replace the bearings as needed then resetup the gears and do a pattern check before putting it back in. I could see how you might be able to get the outer bearing out without pulling the thirdmember but you cant reach the inner pinion bearing without pulling out the pinion.
