Diving into this on two rigs where we are installing an H55f into a 40. The H55f is from a 60 series. Do not have 40 series cover plate for the H55f. I would like to see pics of tunnel mods folks have done to accommodate a 60 series H55f that are taller.

73, 76, and 78

This is the best picture I have of my 10/72 tunnel cover with h55F (with 60 top cover) and split transfer case, also modified for rear axle hand brake lever. It had previously been pretty hacked up for the sm465 so I just cut the top out and stitched in a new piece of metal and cut holes from scratch.

Any finished pics? What gauge sheet metal did you patch with? 18 ga?

I can take some clearer pictures of it installed, sorry I had a really crappy cell phone camera when I did that work. I don't recall the sheet metal gauge, it was comparable to the original tunnel material.

I found this one with the passenger seat removed - ignore the wiring mess.

You can see from the top plates, how far back the 60 cover (left) places the shifter cane.

Curious are those shift boots from a 10/82-4/85 FJ60? What transmission shift cane and transfer case shifter did you use?

Can you measure the height of your transmission cover? This is my 73 cover and a 78 cover. Both are the original shifter location are just under 6".

They are 60 series boots. I am not certain of the shifter, it came with the transmission/transfer case when I bought them. I will get a measurement today. I do recall there is very little clearance between the top of the transmission cover and the tunnel cover.

can’t tell from this pic very well. Did you cut enough of a hole to get clearance and the covered with a 60 cover plate? How far does your transfer case hang down? Any body lift?

No body lift. The red line is flush with the bottom of the frame. I'm curious if this is about right or is it too low? The hole is as shown in the picture above. It is a 60 cover plate.
