    Hey all,

Here a few pics from Tibet. I will add a few more to this thread later. I thought about a cool quiz with prizes about the 'Cruiser that could', but after e9999's bomb I won't do it.

    Enjoy.

If someone could answer what kind of Cruiser this is though, I may send a prize.

    It's a 61

It appears to be an HJ61. It is a high roof version of the 60. Although it could be a BJ61. I believe it to be diesel as it does not have the vents on the fenders. Definitely a 61 though. Always wanted some of those rear ambulance doors for my 60.

    So what did I win?

It is a LandCruiser, but it is a gas engine (F2), but it is a 60. I don't think Landpimp will get this one. I let people know tomorrow evening if noone gets it right.

And sorry e9999, but this doesn't involve gloves, so it can't be as cool :)

More pics, some from the roof of the hotel, and another of the LC

I thought it to be a post 86 HJ60 or FJ60. If its an FJ60 it should have a 3F
All standard 3rd world specs available until 1990(in oz anyway).
It also looks like its running the OEM 16" split rims.

can't see the front so i can't see the headlights to tell me if it's newer or older.

those doors i think you can get in aus... hang on you can' and i think it makes them the older ones if they have amby doors, newer ones had tailgate i think

FJ61, with a 3F motor(more than likely, prolly not a 2F) Gassers with the 3F I think did not get the side vents(like a US 2F) becuase they had no smog crap and no carb cooling fan

I loved the amby doors. They are much easier to load and unload. There were a bunch of carbed FJ80's with the amby doors too. Too many types of cruisers to mention. Most of the 80's have a Toyota hood ornament. I didn't get to climb into a Prado, but they looked like the UZJ100's, but a bit smaller.

It has an F2. I am certain due to the in-the-field 'rebuild'. So as not to drag this out, I didn't find out the year, but it is an FJ60LV-KVC. It has a split-bench seat in the front. It was a great cruiser. If the tires weren't so bald and the idle set so low, I am sure we would have had a much easier time.

We never had a flat, so I never to to see the split rims in action. As a matter of fact, I am glad I never got to see the split rims in action.

The first little problem was a broken front, DS leaf spring. It was the bottom spring and got to limp along on a wet/drowned 'highway' for about 150km.

How do you fix a broken leaf spring in the field in Tibet? You don't and pretend you don't hear it. We had to buy a new spring in the next town, which was luckily a major town on the only paved N-S road (trucking route) in Tibet.

This 'highway' is one of two major east-west trucking routes and is really just a 1 1/2 lane clay dirt road. Clay road + water + broken leaf spring=scared s***less American. Nothing like spinning your backend coming down a pass at switch back with a 2000' drop.

Here are a few more pics to keep Junk happy.

I thought the high roof meant that it was a 61. I have seen a factory spec HJ61 (almost bought it) here in Colorado and it had the high roof. If not, what the hell is a 61?

Land Pimp: Good call on not having the side vents and being a gasser. Never thought that about the side vents are only for smog related vehicles.

    i don't know, 60 series aren't my strong suit

i always thought a 62 had square lights, 60 had round, but it turns out that some 60's plated as 60's got square lights in aus...

and some early aus spec 80's may have got 60 series lights... i can't rememberwhere i read that, but know a guy that's owned his 60 from new, plated a 60 and has square lights
