The clay in that top photo was as hard as a rock.

You know it’s an old clay road when you can leave black skid marks on it

Sadly most all of the clay roads over my way have been “paved” with milled asphalt from highway projects over the past few years. With the the exception of one, all the one lane wooden bridges are gone now too.

The plantations have a lot of political clout so I seriously doubt any of these roads will ever be paved which I see as a good thing.
