Some more progress pics. I haven’t measured the clearances yet, but is there anything I can do (should I?) to clean up the valve area, or polish the cups/camshaft? Or clean some of the crud off without clogging up any oil drains in that area.
Kinda of nervous to do the next parts. Haven’t used my compressor in 6-7 years lol.

Is checking the head bolt torque a thing lol?

What are you up to? Valve stem seals? I’d leave the hard stuck on crud right where it is. It isn’t worth the risk of doing any sort of damage when that crud was doing you no harm in the first place?

Cool color scheme you chose. Cheers

Started doing some of the valve seals. First time doing this and I thought I need to “drive them in”. Didn’t realize that there would be/should be a gap between the head and the valve seal. This was going fine with exhaust but i drove the intake one too far and it split. Of course I only had the right number of seals, so my cruiser is going to be down for one more week while i wait for additional parts to arrive. I now have no confidence in the exhaust seals either, so I’m going to replace those. Also got an actual valve seal removal tool coming, taking the old seals off was difficult.

Since the cruiser is going to be down for another week, I went ahead and removed the upper plenum and replaced all the vacuum lines. Ordered some new 12 hole injectors while in there too.

Did the PHH which I had laying around for a while, my old hose was in a pretty good condition. The PHH was the easiest thing out of this whole project lol.

I thought the flange of the exhaust seal has to bottom out on the head, but that’s not the case right? Same with the intake seals, which are supposed to have an ever bigger gap?

Which method are you using to keep the valves up (compressed air, rope in the cylinders) while replacing the valve stem seals?

Very interested to see how the injectors go!

New aluminum radiator, new gates radiator hoses, new denso thermostat, new blue hub fan clutch with 10k fluid.

This thread is what I use to remember what I've done lol. Sitting at 230k now and last summer the truck was running too hot in the drive thru. I just did drain & refill back then, so I'm planning on going back in and using 20k oil and adjusting it. I've also used a MotoRad thermostat in the past and I'm going to swap it for a toyota one. Need to prep for the 4 axle summit and driving through the dessert.
